Portable appliance testing P.A.T.
All portable appliances over 12 months old should be PAT tested every year. This applies particularly where the appliances are to be used by others i.e. employees, tenants, customers and students or pupils. Many faults cannot be identified by a visual inspection alone. Portable Appliance Testing is one way in which to ensure electrical equipment is safe.
Periodic electrical inspection
Periodic electrical inspections should be carried out at least every 10 years for a domestic installation and every 5 years for a commercial or domestic let property. It is an inspection of the condition of an existing electrical installation. This is particularly important when a property is let, or prior to its sale or purchase. Many insurers are now insisting on a periodic electrical inspection before providing cover on older or let properties.
